The Mercure Debrecen Hotel, completed in 2022 as an investment by Bajcsy Invest Ltd.—a project company of the SZINORG Group—has received the prestigious BREEAM Excellent certification. Now in its third year of operation, the hotel has secured a stable position among business tourism accommodation providers and actively contributes to the development of tourism in Debrecen.
During construction, sustainable building materials were used, smart energy systems were implemented, waste production is minimized during operation, and eco-friendly initiatives are actively supported. Sustainability has become an integral part of our operation without compromising business performance. One of the most significant testaments to our commitment to sustainability is that Mercure Debrecen is the first hotel outside the capital in Hungary to receive the internationally recognized BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification at the Excellent level, confirming the building’s environmentally conscious and energy-efficient design. With this, it became the first non-capital hotel in Hungary to achieve such a prestigious recognition.
BREEAM is a sustainability assessment system developed in the United Kingdom. It aims to monitor and mitigate the environmental impacts of a building throughout its lifecycle, provide a credible environmental label, identify the environmental benefits of buildings, and stimulate demand for sustainable buildings, construction products, and supply chains to create long-term value.
The certification process evaluates buildings across 9+1 categories, each addressing key sustainability factors such as low carbon design, durability and resilience, climate change adaptation, and the protection of ecological value and biodiversity. This certification is highly respected both internationally and in Hungary, making it one of the most sought-after accreditations in the market.
